What is the Dentist Scorecard and How Can it Help Your Practice?

We are continually looking for ways to help our Cigna Dental Care network general dentists grow their practice through increased referrals from satisfied patients. As part of our Quality Program, we periodically create a Dentist Scorecard that measures five aspects of a dental practice. Each is measured on a scale of 0-10 with 0 being the lowest score and 10 being the highest:

  • Usage: This score represents the percentage of patients assigned to an office that are using dental benefits, relative to network norms.
  • Diagnostic-Preventative Score: This score represents the offices’ mix of diagnostic and preventative services, based on the total percentage of chair hours spent on these procedures relative to network norms.
  • Transfer Out Score: The Transfer Out Score represents the percentage of patients who have requested to be transferred out of the office during the year. Note that a high score represents a low rate of member transfer outs.
  • Complaint Activity Score: This score represents the office complaint rate, relative to network norms.
  • Access Score: This score represents the office’s initial appointment wait time, relative to network norms.

We do not put more emphasis on one category over another. They are all evaluated equally. The Dentist Scorecard reflects data in our system regarding your practice from January – December 2024.  If you are a participating General Dentist in the Cigna Dental Care (DHMO) Access or Access Plus network and would like to obtain a copy of your latest Scorecard, please send an email request to George.Mendonca@cignahealthcare.com.  Please include your practice address and phone number.
